Did You Know?
DBM was originally discovered to be osteoinductive by accident in the 1960s, when researchers noticed that demineralized bone implanted into animals triggered the unexpected formation of new bone in places bone shouldn’t normally grow. That surprise finding ended up becoming one of the foundations of modern biologics.
Regulatory Excellence and Clinical Versatility
At Noviotissue, we’ve modernized the DBM experience—with smoother handling, more formulation choice, and consistent performance. Whether you’re grafting a ridge or reinforcing a spine, DBM still matters—and now it’s better than ever.
But Why does it matter? DBM still stands out as the gold-standard in bone void surgery because it really works!
- Osteoinductive and osteoconductive.
- Derived from real human tissue.
- Backed by decades of use across orthopedic, dental, and spine surgeries.
Cancellous Cubes
Engineered with both biological performance and clinical efficiency in mind, these allograft-based materials offer a natural scaffold that supports osteoconduction and osteoinduction. Their versatile handling properties make them suitable for use in trauma, spine, and reconstructive applications where traditional grafts may be difficult to place or shape. By combining strength with flexibility and biocompatibility, advanced bone matrices help surgeons achieve stable fixation and long-term graft incorporation, even in challenging anatomical sites.
Product Handling
Cancellous Cubes can be applied directly to the defect site. Compress the cube slightly before placement; upon exposure to blood or saline, it will expand to fill the space and conform to the surrounding bone. Secure fixation is typically achieved without additional hardware.
Versatile Bone Graft for Orthopedic Reconstruction
Cancellous Cubes are designed to meet the demands of orthopedic bone repair and regeneration. Each cube acts as a dynamic bone scaffold composed of cortico-cancellous grafts integrated with gelatin and hyaluronic acid. This combination provides excellent handling, adaptability, and biological performance in both open and minimally invasive procedures.
The compressible structure allows surgeons to easily shape and position the graft into irregular bone defects. Upon contact with blood or other physiological fluids, the cubes expand—ensuring optimal defect fill, stable placement, and intimate contact with surrounding bone. The resulting increase in porosity facilitates cellular migration, angiogenesis, and new bone formation, supporting faster and more predictable healing.
Key Features & Benefits:
- Optimized Handling: Compressible and easy to mold into complex defect geometries.
- Expandable Structure: Expands upon contact with fluid for superior fit and fixation.
- Enhanced Porosity: Promotes cellular infiltration and vascularization for improved integration.
- Cortico-Cancellous Blend: Balances strength and resorption for predictable remodeling.
- Time-Saving Application: Ready-to-use formulation—no mixing or preparation required.
Clinical Applications:
- Trauma and fracture repair
- Spinal fusion and vertebral reconstruction
- Revision arthroplasty
- Non-union and delayed union defects
- Small to medium segmental defects
Did You Know?
Cancellous cubes are so porous that they’re often compared to natural “biological sponges.” Surgeons love them because those tiny trabecular pathways act like highways for cells and blood vessels. A single cubic centimeter of cancellous bone can contain over 70 percent air space, which is one reason it integrates so well once it’s implanted.
Cortical Bone Dowels
xCyte Bone Dowels are precision-shaped structural allograft grafts designed for cervical and lumbar fusion procedures. Each dowel is machined from high-quality donor bone and prepared to maintain native strength, structural integrity, and reliable incorporation. The line includes unicortical, bicortical, and tricortical options so surgeons can match the graft to the mechanical needs of the procedure. All grafts are terminally sterilized, processed under strict tissue-banking standards, and available in the most commonly used diameters.
All grafts are available in standard surgical diameters and processed
under strict tissue-banking protocols with full traceability.
xCyte Bone Dowels are precision-machined allograft grafts designed for cervical and lumbar fusion procedures. The portfolio includes:
- Unicortical dowels from the proximal and distal ends of long bones. These provide cancellous-rich architecture for faster biological incorporation.
- Bicortical dowels cut from the ilium, offering added structural stability through two cortical surfaces.
- Tricortical (Crock) dowels harvested from the iliac crest, providing three cortical surfaces for maximum load-bearing strength.
All dowels are processed under strict tissue-banking standards and delivered in the most commonly used surgical diameters.
Did You Know?
They’re called “Cloward” dowels because they come from the Cloward Technique, created by Dr. Ralph B. Cloward, a neurosurgeon who pioneered one of the first reliable methods for anterior cervical spine fusion in the 1950s and 60s. Cloward’s method involved:
- Removing the damaged disc from the front of the neck
- Drilling a cylindrical hole between the vertebrae
- Inserting a unicortical cylindrical bone dowel into that hole to maintain height and achieve fusion
Because he used unicortical cylindrical grafts, those grafts became known as Cloward dowels.
